Here you will see an example of an antique silver vinaigrette.
If you open the case you can explore the interior for marks. Each Silver item is different when it comes to finding marks. The antique silver vinaigrette above you will see has marks stamped inside the lid and the base of its case.
If we enlarge the image inside the lid you can clearly see the the Lion Passant denoting English Sterling Silver and the cameo of the head of King George.
The initials SP are the makers mark for this piece. Once you have identified the makers marks as SP you are now able to research their identity.
In this example the letters SP relate to Samuel Pemberton who was an established Birmingham Silver Maker operating between around 1790 - 1820.
A large index of Silver Makers Marks can be researched by clicking the highlighted text or any of the pages from the menu on the right hand side.
